• Understand, develop, and cultivate students’ overall intercultural communication competence

Method of Instruction

The course will be taught through lectures, class discussions of case studies, group activities, role-playing, and simulations.

Course Assessment

The course requirements for assessment are a (mandatory) oral presentation, which carries 20% of the final grade and a final written exam, which carries 80% of the final grade. Alternatively you may opt for the final exam only (80%, max grade 8/10). More information regarding the oral presentation will be provided in due course.

The format of the exam will include questions on various theoretical matters (definitions, cultural dimensions, non-verbal communication etc.), where you may be asked to match definitions to terms or write out a definition etc. It will also include a critical incident where you will have to discuss your views based on theoretical concepts covered in class. You may also be asked to compare cultures again based on cultural dimensions (e.g. low vs high context, collective, vs individual etc.).

Note: To fully benefit from this course, you are strongly encouraged to regularly attend it and actively participate in the various activities, as this course is not based on mere lectures.
