MIGRATION AND EU: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS 2026
(DES407) - ΦΩΤΕΙΝΗ ΑΣΔΕΡΑΚΗ, ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ ΜΑΡΚΟΖΑΝΗ
Περιγραφή Μαθήματος
EU Migration Policy has been the backbone of the EU Area of Freedom, Security, and Justice. It is one of the most complex policy areas, and it has been on the frontline of EU policies for more than a decade. As a multidimensional policy area, it requires careful study of its aspects for anyone to comprehend its prospects and challenges. Especially after the 2015 refugee crisis, the EU has increased the measures and policies for the better management of migration flows, aiming at guaranteeing both humanitarian and security goals. In addition, a plethora of proposed reforms, many at a standstill and others in evolution, are targeted at both regular and irregular migration. Indeed, the complex structure and the evolving nature of the EU migration policy are not readily acknowledged.
The Jean Monnet Module on Migration and the EU: Challenges and Prospects will offer participants the opportunity to study different dimensions of EU migration policy. This all-inclusive course will help participants understand and learn the policy comprehensively. The course will address issues of EU policy development, structure, decision-making, the protection of human rights, external cooperation on migration, security issues, irregular and legal migration, and aspects of inclusion. In this way, participants will gain a clear understanding of the multidimensional and interdisciplinary nature of this policy, as well as the multi-level and multi-actor structure of its formation and implementation. This is intended to familiarise participants with the main cross-cutting topics, enabling them to fully understand the elements of migration policies.
